Banda Aceh, Monday April 29, 2024 – LaKaspia, an nongovernment organization that focuses on socio political studies in Aceh, education and train, invites active participation from various civil society organizations (CSOs) to take part in discussions to share experiences and increase capacity regarding gender based violence (GBV). This event was held on Monday, April 29, 2024 at the Koalisi NGO HAM Aceh – LaKaspia Office.
This activity is entitled “Skills to Help Victims and Reduce GBV Around Us” is part of the Spear project in Aceh which aims to strengthen and maintain peace, as well as provide recovery support for conflict victims. This event also aims to reduce violence against civilians, especially women and children, in the hope of creating a safer and more peaceful environment in Aceh.
Halik, Director of LaKaspia, said that this event is expected to increase participants’ understanding of the anatomy of gender base violence and encourage breaking the chain of violence in Aceh. “With better understanding, we can strengthen layers of protection from individuals to communities, thereby gradually reducing gender base violence,” said Halik.
This discussion was attended by 20 participants who are representatives of six NP partner institutions, including LaKaspia, Koalisi NGO HAM Aceh, Flower Aceh, Balai Syura Ureung Inong Aceh, Kontras Aceh and YBHA PM. The participants shared experiences and strategies related to GBV advocacy and prevention, facilitated by Sri Elmanita from Koalisi NGO HAM Aceh and Fahmi Rizal from LaKaspia.
This event presented two main speakers and one observer who is experienced in GBV prevention, namely Rika Yusrina from Flower Aceh, Nurmaida Sari from YBHA PM and Farny Niaswanee Kortornilo, a GBV prevention activist in Southern Thailand. They shared their experiences in handling GBV cases and provided valuable insights to the participants.
This activity was held in collaboration with Nonviolent Peaceforce and supported by Kingdom of The Netherlands. The main objective of this activity is to strengthen the capacity of LaKaspia partners and other CSOs in protecting civil rights and promoting sustainable peace in Aceh.
LaKaspia hopes that this activity can be the first step towards closer cooperation between various civil society institutions in a joint effort to reduce gender base violence and create a safer environment for all.*@
