Meulaboh, June 6, 2024 – LaKaspia held a training session titled “Basic Civil Protection for Students and Youth Organizations” at the Zaya Guest House Meeting Room, Meulaboh, West Aceh Regency. The training aims to enhance the capacity of the young generation regarding civil protection, focusing on the state’s responsibility to protect citizens from violence and threats.
This activity is part of the SPEAR Project in Aceh, based on a collaboration with Nonviolent Peaceforce, aimed at strengthening peace and reducing violence against civilians, especially women and children. Within LaKaspia’s scope, the project highlights four main issues: civil protection, transitional justice and reconciliation, gender-based violence prevention, and the protection of women’s rights.
The training began at 08:30 AM with participant registration, followed by an opening speech by LaKaspia’s Director, Halik. The first session, presented by Khairil SH and facilitated by Heri Saputra SH, covered civil protection from acts of violence by state and non-state entities. An interactive discussion followed the first session until the break for lunch and prayers (ISHOMA).
After the break, the session continued with the second topic presented by Rahmat Hidayat, SH, focusing on civil protection from community violence. The second discussion was again facilitated by Heri Saputra SH, ending with a closing speech by Halik.
This activity was attended by 30 participants, consisting of university students and representatives of youth organizations (OKP) in the West Aceh Regency area. LaKaspia, as the event organizer, collaborated with Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) and supported by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in organizing this training.
“With this training, it is hoped that the young generation will better understand the role of the state in protecting its citizens and actively participate in raising awareness about the importance of civil protection,” said Halik in his opening remarks.
LaKaspia, based in Aceh, continues to support sustainable peace efforts in Aceh through various training programs and research focused on peacebuilding and socio-political studies. *@
